The women in my family are the storytellers; I have learned how to persevere and survive in the world through their oral history. I process these narratives, often fragmented and convoluted in their timeline, and tell my own artistically. My paintings explore my experiences as a young woman growing up in the Midwest. My work addresses topics such as grief, fear, and love relating to the female experience in a patriarchal society, communicating visual tension and emotion.
I pull from pop culture, film, and my memories. I look to directors, photographers, and painters to learn visual languages of storytelling; people such as David Lynch, Amy Bennett, Cindy Sherman, and Gregory Crewdson.
When I'm not working in my studio, I am a professional assistant to muralist Ouizi. I minored in public art in undergrad and for the past four years, I have traveled with Ouizi across the country, assisting her in painting her signature large scale floral murals.
